GUILIN. SIGHTS OF INTEREST. Elephant Trunk Hill
 

Situated on the western bank of Li River, 200 meters high, 55 meters above the water, 108 meters long, 100 meters wide and 360 million years old Elephant Trunk Hill resembles a giant elephant drinking water from the river with its long trunk. There is a cave between the trunk and the legs of the elephant. The miracle is that being in the cave on a clear night you can see the reflection of the moon on the surface of the water without seeing the moon itself from the cave. There are many inscriptions of the Tang and Song Dynasties on the walls of this cave. They praise the beauty of the hill and the waters nearby. There is another cave up the hill resembling the eyes of the elephant. Being inside that cave you can get a beautiful view of Guilin city. Elephant Trunk Hill is a symbol of Guilin city.
