XI'AN. SIGHTS OF INTEREST. Stele Forest
 

Stele Forest Museum is situated in Sanxue Street, close to the southern gate of Xi’an City Wall. About 3 000 stone steles of 900 years history from the Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty are kept here. They display the works of calligraphy, painting and historical records. Printing was under development at that time and the rulers engraved the books to preserve them well. Tablets of the famous calligraphers of the Tang Dynasty narrate the cultural exchanges between the Tang Dynasty and the other states. You’ll see the portraits of Confucius and Bodhidarma, allegorical pictures on the painting stones. You’ll find poems on poetic inscriptions. There are the Classic on Filial Piety written by Xuanzong Emperor in 745 AD, the Book of Changes, the Book of History, the Book of Songs, the Analects of Confucius is just a part of books engraved on the steles.
