 Tour to Semeyskiye villages (Old Believers’ Villages)

If you come here from the page about old believers of Transbaikalia you know that they are bright ethnic branch of Old Believers exiled to Siberia in XVIII century after the reform of the church, taken by Patriarch Nikon. You know also, that they were able to save their culture, unwritten songs, religion in their primeval kind. And that there are several villages of old believers in Buryatia or Transbaikalia today. These villages can be called as Simeyskiye villages too and they are Desyathnikovo, Bolshoi Kunaley, Tarbagatay and Kuytun villages. 

A day tour to the villages of old believers will bring you in the past. When you get down into the typical semeyskaya street you'll be struck with colorful painted cornices, window shatters and platbands of their houses. Yes, it's specific wooden architecture. 

You'll visit a museum at the cathedral in Tarbagatai village and see ancient things, icons, housewares belonged to old believers. Voiceferous, a unique technique of singing, testing tradition old believers' lunch, show of semeyskiye dresses, ceremonies and ancient games will be performed to you during a folkshow prepaired especially for you by people living there. You'll visit also one of the houses to learn the material culture of old believers during excursion around one of the villages. You are welcome, it's really worth seeing!
