The complex includes the Holy Trinity Cathedral, a theological seminary, and the Church of the Annunciation. The Cathedral was designed by Starov in classical style and built between 1776 - 1790. It was one of only about a dozen churches that functioned in the Soviet era and services are still held daily.

The Church of the Annunciation is the oldest building of the Lavra. It was designed by Domenico Trezzini in the Baroque style and built between 1717 - 1721.

The monastery area contains several cemeteries, including the Lazarevsky and the Tikhvinsky where some of Russia's most famous artistic figures such as Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Rachmaninov are buried.
